About Us

The BBF | Research Library for the History of Education in Berlin is a research library with outstanding library and archive holdings on the history of German education in its international relations and a center for historical educational research in Germany. The BBF is a department of the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education.

History

The BBF, Research Library for the History of Education has experienced a varied history that can be traced back to the establishment of the German School Museum in 1876. One of the most comprehensive special libraries emerged, which later became known as the “German Teacher Library" and "Central Pedagogical Library”, which today is a research library for the history of education in German-speaking countries.

Networks

As a research library, the BBF also liaises with other national and international institutions and organizations. They collaborate in providing services to scientists teaching and researching on the history of education in the German-speaking area.

Friends of the BBF

The "Förderkreis Bibliothek für Bildungsgeschichtliche Forschung e.V. " (Association of Friends of the BBF | Research Library for the History of Education) was founded in 1990. It intends to bring together all people interested in strengthening the profile of the BBF as a cultural-scientific research institution and want to support the BBF by material and non-material means.
