What do urban streets, rubbish bins, deserts and private industry have to do with schooling? The newly published edited volume Interweaving Peripheries. Transient Objectives and Morphing Spaces of School and Schooling explores the often overlooked spaces, objects and actors that shape school life from the margins. Rather than treating these educational peripheries as mere background, the volume demonstrates how deeply they are entangled in the everyday making of schools and schooling. Drawing on diverse historical and educational contexts, the chapters present schools as dynamic meshworks of interconnected ideas, materials, practices and people. They examine how educational peripheries emerge, shift, stabilise and challenge existing structures. What happens at the edges is often central to how schools are formed, experienced and transformed.

At the book launch, the three editors – Fanny Isensee (Tampere University, Finland), Lisa Rosén Rasmussen (Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, Denmark) and Josefine Wähler (BBF | Research Library for the History of Education at DIPF) – will offer a glimpse into the volume. Some contributing authors will then read selected passage from their texts, taking the audience on a trip to the margins of school. Along the way, a recurring question emerges: where, how and by whom is schooling actually made?

Afterwards, we invite you to stay for snacks, drinks and conversation.

The event will be held in English.
