Workshop »Changing Forms and Formats ‒ Digital Writing and Digital Publishing in the History of Education«
The prevalence and demand for easier accessibility and unrestricted (re-)usability of digitized sources and technical applications for the creation and interpretation of research results in the field of the History of Education has significantly increased in recent years. Particularly the COVID-19 pandemic with the restricted access to libraries and archives and their collections of – original – sources boosted the request for digital alternatives. In addition to digital repositories and virtual archives, smaller, shortened digital and hybrid forms and formats are in significantly higher demand and increasingly integrated into individual research processes. Examples are web and blog posts, Twitter threads, and enriched articles in open access journals and on alternative platforms.
The 'new' digital publication forms and formats also foster a change in the culture of the discipline, in the practice of scholarly writing, and in the emergence and accelerated dissemination and interconnectedness of new knowledge on the History of Education in the 'digital space'. The workshop will discuss the benefits and opportunities of digital writing and publishing by looking at these 'new' forms and formats.
