Coronavirus Pandemic: Current Services at BBF

Following the resumption of restricted lending services, the BBF reading room will also be accessible again from Monday, May 18, 2020, subject to strict hygiene and social distancing rules, but only for the use of archival materials and special collection items to be used exclusivly on premises. Confirmed pre-registration is required for use of the reading room.

From Monday, 18 May 2020, limited use of archival materials and special collections items only to be used on premises will again be possible in the BBF reading room. Due to the requirements of hygiene and social distancing rules, you will be induidually assigned to your work table.

Overview of the current services and conditions for use:

  • Opening hours:  Monday to Friday , from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., except on public holidaysPlease note that the BBF building may only be entered with mouth-nose-mask. If necessary, you can purchase a self-sewn mouth-nose-mask at the lending desk in the BBF at cost price of 10 Euros.
  • There is a dispenser for hand disinfection in the anteroom, please use it before entering.
  • For both – out-of-house use (borrowing and return of media) and use on-site –, we ask you to register in advance by e-mail, stating the date and time frame by 4 p.m. of the previous day at the latest.
    • Three time slots are available to return or borrow media: 10 to 11 a.m., 11 to 12 a.m. and 12 to 1 p.m.
    • The maximum time slot that can be booked for on-site use is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Confirmation of the appointment will be sent promptly if there is still capacity, otherwise we will offer you an alternative date.
  • Please send registrations for the use of library materials to . After confirmation of the appointment you can order the desired media until 8 a.m. on the day of collection – directly from the library catalog or by . Orders for items only to be used on premises can only be placed by . Self-service in the open stacks or reading room collections is not possible.
  • Please send registrations for the use of archive materials to , if possible with the signatures oft the requested items, which you will find in the archive database.

As before, you may order article and partial copies of monographs directly from the library catalog, by using the form on the website or by . Our freely accessible internet databases and other digial ressources are also fully available to you and we will continue to answer your .
