Inequality, Equity and Justice in Education – A Historical Analysis

By means of a historical perspective, the project analyzes the discursive conjunctures of the assessment of unequal access to education and the critique of unequal chances for educational success as well as the various strategies for addressing these unequalities. This is done as part of  the research network “SchuMas – Schule macht stark”. For the research and development work to be carried out in SchuMas, such a contemporary historical analysis offers an important opportunity for reflection, in order to critically examine central concepts and terminology guiding the work and to open up alternative interpretations. At the same time, a history of educational inequality and educational justice, which is committed to the present, takes into account the reference to current research perspectives and experiences of contemporary actors. The project thus aims to connect  current system development to the historical perspective connected to it and thus depicting and classifying the discourse on educational inequality and educational justice in the 20th century. The focus is on questions about the various ways in which these problems were described and on the proposed solutions throughout history.
