Indexing Exercise with Records from the Editing Board of "Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaft"

In cooperation with the Faculty of Information Science at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, students from the archive course, supervised by BBF archivists, indexed editing materials from the “Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaft“ dating from 1997 to 2013.

Project Description

Subject to the training measures the BBF offers to young scientists, students were given original materials from the BBF archive to gain practical experience in archival processing. Beyond classical indexing tasks in terms of ordering the material and indexing it in the archive database, instruction was offered regarding further basic archival competencies. Students were given the opportunity to find out about the complex work processes a collecting specialized archive is involved in – beginning with the acquisition material and ranging to assessment, indexing, proper treatment of archival materials and making them available to users. In this context, the students were also taught about legislative frameworks that are relevant for archiving (archive legislation, copyright legislation, and protection of personal rights).

Following the completion of the project, the detailed electronic indexing data that were generated in the practical exercises were transferred to the BBF archive database, to ensure sustainable availability and use of the data.
