Reconstruction Work at BBF: Partial Closure of BBF from Monday, July 13, 2020

Reconstruction Work at BBF: Partial Closure of BBF from Monday, July 13, 2020

Due to the reconstruction of the public areas, the BBF will be partially closed from Monday, July 13, 2020.

From Monday, July 13, 2020, until probably mid-November 2020, the current public areas of the BBF will be closed while we will redesign these areas so that you will have even better working conditions and feel even more comfortable at BBF. During the reconstruction period, possibilities of use are limited. The library access will be transferred to Warschauer Strasse 36, 1st floor and the archive may be accessed via the entrance at Warschauer Strasse 38, staircase B, 3rd floor.

The use is still only possible after a confirmed pre-registration. In the building, the well-known hygiene and social distancing rules apply. We kindly ask you to wear a mouth and nose protection and to take it off only when you are sitting at your assigned working place.

Which Holdings Are Accessible During The Reconstruction, Which Are Not?

Unavailable Holdings

The entire library holdings of the open stacks (shelf numbers from 2000.xxxx to 2019.xxxx), the reading room stock (shelf numbers LS), the majority of the journals (shelf numbers 2 A and Z, year of publication before 1945 and after 2010) and the old prints (shelf numbers AD, year of publication until 1850) will be removed for reconstruction. It is therefore not possible to make these holdings available until reopening.

Still Accessible Holdings

The library holdings in the closed stacks and achival materials are not affected by the reconstruction and may be ordered and used during the reconstruction period.

Using of Reading Rooms

The use of library and archive materials is possible in separate interim reading rooms. Four work places are available for library users and three for archive users; an appointment must be made in advance for organizational reasons. Please send your request for use of library materials to , for archive materials to .

Alas, it is not possible for us to offer you a break room in the provisional rooms.

Borrowing of Library Items

Titles, that are marked in the library catalogue as "circulating collection“, may also be borrowed while the library is being renovated. We kindly ask you to pre-order the desired items and make an appointment to pick them up. The collection takes place in the library interim reading room. The loan period for all borrowed books is six months. An extension or return during the reconstruction period is not necessary.
