at the German Institute for International Educational Research
The BBF is an international research library dedicated to research on the history of education with its own archive and research section.
It is part of the German Institute for International Educational Research, an institute belonging to the Leibniz Association.
The BBF’s main functions and tasks are:
- Providing library, archival and information services: This includes aiming for a complete collection, indexing and long-term preservation of sources and publications relevant for the history of education (printed and unprinted) in the German-speaking countries, as well as foreign titles on this subject (mostly in English). Furthermore, the BBF offers a broad scope of online information services. The BBF is part of the Germany's distributed national research library, consisting of about 30 libraries.
- Participation with its own research section in scientific discourse by contributing research in its own right.
- Supporting scholarly communication by releasing publications, regularly organizing conferences and workshops as well as exhibitions focusing on educational historic topics.
